New Delhi, Aug 14, 2008: Sony Ericsson’s just launched phone C902 is a great media phone. It will be priced Rs 20995 when it is launched in Indian market.

Known more as James Bond phone as it is used widely by James Bond in his forthcoming film, it will be a sure shot among youngsters. 

So if you want to be seen like using the same high tech devices that are hallmark of James Bond you should switch to a C902 mobile handset.

This Sony Ericsson C902 is a 107 grams phone has a Lithium Ion battery type, which provides talk time of 540 minutes and standby time of 400 hours. It comes with features like 256k colour TFT display with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash and video recorder.

Intel executives also confirmed that the company will ship a quad-core version of the platform by the end of the quarter. Executives also patched some of the expected holes in the announcement by claiming that the Mobile Intel Express 45 chipset was already shipping with integrated graphics, after the company previously announced a delay.

Centrino 2 notebooks with integrated graphics will be available in “the coming weeks,” according to Mooly Eden, the vice president and general manager of the mobile platforms group at Intel. A corresponding Wi-Fi delay also resulted in a slip of just three weeks, meaning that Intel’s 802.11n technology is also “good to go,” Eden added.

Over 250 different products will ship with the new platform, Eden said, who introduced the new platform Monday night on Centrino’s fifth anniversary. Acer, Lenovo, and Sony, among others, all announced new Centrino 2 notebooks.

Intel claims that, overall, the Centrino 2 platform offers 23 percent better overall performance, measured by the Sysmark06 benchmark, versus a 27 percent overall decrease in power consumption. Eden explained the seeming inconsistency of higher performance through less power through an acronym: HUGI, or Hurry Up and Get Idle. The new platform contains aggressive power management to force it as quickly as possible into a low-power sleep state.

The reduction in power also means that OEMs have the freedom to design thinner, more attractive notebooks, Eden added. He also demonstrated a small-form-factor desktop prototype that had been built around the Centrino 2 platform.

“With Centrino 2, Intel has taken thin and light and made it mainstream,” Leslie Fiering, vice president for mobile computing at Gartner, said in an interview.

As always, the Centrino 2 “Montevina” platform consists of a CPU, a chipset, and a radio. Intel introduced five new processors, all with a 1,066-MHz front-side bus and up to 6 Mbytes of level-2 cache. The fastest, the X9100, runs at 3.06 GHz. Three other processors are dedicated low-power versions and carry a “P” prefix, with a thermal design power of 25 watts.

The X9100 also will allow users to unlock it, pushing it beyond its rated limits for those enthusiasts who wish to ad additional cooling.

Within 90 days, Intel said, it plans to launch eight processors that will include what Eden called “the beast,” a quad-core chip, as well as next-generation microprocessors for thin and light notebooks.

The Mobile Intel 45 chipset complements the Intel Wi-Fi Link 5000, an 802.11n radio module that is compliant with the draft specification. Intel’s chipset also allows an OEM to add a discrete graphics chip that can be switched on to provide enhanced gaming performance. A hybrid Wi-Fi/WiMAX 5050 card will ship later this year, after being delayed following the merger of Sprint and Clearwire.

What’s the measure of a notebook these days? Apparently, the ability to play a Blu-ray movie straight through without plugging in the laptop. In what he acknowledged was a jab at rival AMD, Eden said “when someone asks you running the whole movie ask if it is a movie or it is the trailer.”

AMD, meanwhile, has the advantage of a “Puma” notebook platform that is already in the market, shipping, and without delays, said Pat Moorhead, vice president of advanced marketing for AMD, in an interview. “There are no delays, no workarounds, no performance issues,” he said. “I’m certainly not sitting back and gloating. We’ve had our share [of problems], but not on this platform.”

Moorhead also claimed that a Puma platform could play back a Blu-ray disc on battery power.

Microsoft also displayed a line-up of games to drive demand for the console, including “Gears of War 2,” a much-anticipated sequel to its blockbuster science-fiction shooter game. It will debut exclusively for the Xbox 360 on Nov. 7.

The company is locked in a three-way competition with Nintendo Co Ltd’s Wii and the PlayStation 3, which comes with a high-definition Blu-ray video player. The Wii is the current leader, while Sony’s PS2 was the winner of the last generation of consoles.

“Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than PlayStation 3,” Don Mattrick, a senior vice president at Microsoft’s Xbox division, said at a Microsoft news conference before the start of the E3 video game industry trade show.

Microsoft said on Sunday it will cut the price of its best-selling Xbox 360 Pro with a 20-gigabyte hard drive to $299 from $349 while supplies last. In early August, it will introduce a new model with a 60-gigabyte hard drive for $349.

A cut to $299 makes the Xbox 360 Pro $100 less than one of the console’s major rivals, Sony’s PlayStation 3 with a 40-gigabyte hard drive. Microsoft said the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 in the United States by 5 million units.

Microsoft introduced the Xbox 360 in November 2005, a year before Sony released the PS3 and Nintendo rolled out the Wii.

In a sign that the company is positioning the Xbox 360 as an entertainment hub instead of just a game machine, Microsoft said it signed a deal to make TV shows and movies from NBC Universal available on its Xbox Live online platform.

Microsoft also announced a tie-up with Netflix Inc to let subscribers of the movie rental company watch streamed films and TV shows on Xbox 360 game consoles starting this fall.

The Xbox 360 does not come with a high-definition video player like the PS3 but the company expects digital download of video to eventually overtake demand for packaged movies and TV shows. Currently, Xbox Live offers some high-definition movies but the Netflix service does not.

Microsoft said a third of all paid content downloaded in the United States is movies and television shows.

MII TOO?

One of the major announcements at the press conference was a planned fall overhaul of the Xbox 360 console interface.

The new suite of features will include a community games channel to showcase user-created titles and the addition of personalized avatars reminiscent of those on Nintendo’s Wii console.

The avatars on the Xbox 360 will have a deeper level of customization than Nintendo’s “Miis,” and users will be able to select from a wide variety of clothes, accessories and hairstyles, Microsoft said during the press conference.

Microsoft also unveiled a number of casual and family games hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the Wii such as “Lips,” a karaoke-style music game that employs a motion-sensitive wireless microphone.

“I really do think it’s going to help them close the gap against Nintendo and help shore up its online business against Sony,” said analyst Billy Pidgeon of IDC. “It was a lot more than I had expected from Microsoft. It was doing well with casual games on Live, but this will definitely help it get more users per household.”
